Support Indigenous Salvadoran Grassroots Groups
Latinx History Project fiscally sponsors this ANIS-International fundraiser in honor of Council Speaker Petrona Xemiyulu Tapepechul' birthday.
1) Ancestral Community Library in Sonsonate: $500
A closed community library with ancestral teachings in the department of Sonsonate. The community is not open to naming themselves publicly, but they are at risk of losing their physical space each month.
"I wanted to continue supporting this community library because since meeting the director of the library, and community, I have learned a lot about leadership and organizing." - Xemi
2) Asociacion de Parteria Indigena y Comunitaria: $250
A collective of parteras (birthworkers) from across the departments, that educates aspiring parteras and creates the next generation of traditional birthworkers.

3) Asociacion Nacional de Indigena Salvadoreña: $500
4) Canton El Brazo Mutual Aid: $500
A rural community located in San Miguel, of Afro-Lenca and Lenca descent. Residents survived the immense violence caused by the Civil War in the 1980's, but the canton is still recovering.
"Lenca, Afro-Indigenous, and Black people get excluded across the nation, and this mutual aid project centers them, shares their stories, and allows us to play witness to the blossing of the Canton El Brazo." - Xemi
5) Witzapan Mutual Aid: $1500
A rural community located in Santo Domingo de Guzman, of Nawat people, some of still speak the language Nawat with their neighbors. Residents in the Canton El Caulote live in extreme poverty and need support to build a crop. Ten families will benefit from this effort.
"The community in Canton El Caulote, and all of Wizapan, continue to get pillaged by colonizers, and folks do not seem to want to help the community. The community has taught me so much, as well as others in the Trans Salvadoran community." -Xemi
6) Yultuk: $250
A community initiative of artesans in Panchimalco, promoting just treatment of artists. The community in Panchimalco has a the tradition of the Paño, which is practiced by Elders. Their Paño campaign aims to get their Elders access to paño and masks.
"Yultuk has been working with the Diaspora for a couple months now, and designed a wipil and koton for the Tamachtiluyan Shuchikisa An Ne Nawat. Their campaigns to suppor their Elders, and their efforts to support the Diaspora with access to traditional clothes, are amazing."
