Fifth Street Renaissance (FSR) is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization that has been providing prevention, housing and other supportive services to those experiencing homelessness for more than 30 years in Springfield Illinois.
In late 2012, the agency opened the first shelter in the capitol city to exclusively serve the needs of homeless veterans that currently houses 15 homeless and/or disabled male Veterans. The program has assisted many veterans to overcome the issues that caused their homelessness, gain permanent housing in the community and continues to provide them support on their journey to sustained independence.
Additionally in late 2019, Fifth Street Renaissance opened Veterans Family Renaissance to provide permanent supportive housing to female Veterans and Veteran families who are homeless. Homeless Veteran residents (females and families) live in the property while receiving a multitude of services to provide them the skills, resources and support necessary to empower them from homelessness to independence. Please help us to help those who have so selflessly served our country.
On October 10th, MB Heating and Cooling will host a "Box City" Camp Out for Homeless Veterans fundraiser at 1555 West Jefferson, Springfield Illinois to assist us in raising the funds needed to support housing and services for our Veterans. We are looking for corporate, business and church sponsors, participants and volunteers for this event as well.
The goal is to raise $10,000 or more to help homeless veterans by spending one night in a cardboard shelter at MB Heating & Cooling, 1555 W. Jefferson, Springfield, IL.
Who should attend:
Everyone! Families, church groups, businesses…anyone interested in helping is encouraged to attend.
How to participate:
Raise the “rent” and get your camp site for the event by collecting pledges or donating to Fifth Street Renaissance. We are asking everyone to have a goal of raising $100, but all contributions will be accepted. Donations can also be made to https://www.gofundme.com/f/azcc5v-10000
What to bring:
Boxes will be provided. Bring your donation form, items to decorate your box shelter, sleeping bag, pillows, flashlight, deck of cards or other quiet games. Boxes may be picked up prior to October 10th at MB Heating & Cooling, Inc. if you would like. Please do not bring: valuables, electronics, pets, alcohol, tobacco or weapons.
Prizes for Best Box Shelter:
1st prize - $1000 (Provided by MB Heating & Cooling)
2nd prize - $500 prize pack
3rd prize - $250 prize pack
