Help the Volunteers and Firefighters in Argenta, BC
Argenta Safety and Preparedness Society (ASAP) is a non-profit society that was created as a community effort to build rural resiliency and increase our local capacity to fight wildfires and other potential emergencies in our backyard. This is a grassroots effort that has proven to be extremely important since the wildfires started on the night of July 17th.
On the night of July 17th after a dry storm with many lightning strikes a series of spot fires started on the mountainside we call home. Our community fire crew was set into action. The fire situation has since worsened, growing hundreds of hectares in size and threatening structures in the community. On the evening of July 24th and Evacuation Order was put in place and everyone except the trained fire crew and the dispatchers for ASAP left.
ASAP has been accepted in the Community Co-operative Wildfire Response pilot project with BC Wildfire Service. We are working in tandem with the BC Wildfire Service to do structure protection, action spot fires and save our home.
As a non-profit society, we do not have the resources allocated to us like the ministry firefighters do. We are in need of supplies and resources to continue our efforts.
Cash donations will be used to purchase:
Fire fighting equipment such has (hoses, pumps etc.)
Fuel
Food for the fire crews
Argenta is a tiny rural community in a remote part of the West Kootenay valley in SE BC.
It has an enormous history of cooperation and collaborative community effort; ASAP being a prime example.
We would hate to lose our home that has touched so many people over decades from living or visiting here.
