A REAL TRAGEDY Please Support Janice Rodger

Hi everyone,

I am writing on behalf of a good friend, Janice Rodger, who I've known for over 40 years.

This girl's stroke of bad luck started when she was with her sister and family in August 2020 on Cortes Island, BC vacationing when she had a fall on barnacles and dangerously cut a tendon in her left foot causing her to lose movement in her first 2 toes. She was on crutches for weeks.  Six weeks later the cut is healed but the movement has not come back completely.  This horrible bad luck continued for Janice having to clear the top floor of her house due to the house being exterminated.  Because of her lack of mobility in her foot and being on crutches, she placed most of the house belongings on her sundeck for temporary storage during work.  On September 28th Janice was at work when she received the devastating news that her house was on fire, which spread to the roof and neighboring duplex. Janice, DK and their neighbours are safe but due to the extent of the fire and water damage from the fire fighting, the house will be unlivable for the next 8 months while it is being repaired.

Janice works for the North Vancouver School Board at Mountainside Secondary and also works with at-risk youth in the downtown eastside of Vancouver. She has given so much to her students and families and to the youth in her group home.  She is well-loved by her co-workers,  her friends and her students, youth and families. She tirelessly gives back to the people in her community and everyone is a better person for knowing her.    She deserves our help and support now.

There was an oversight in her insurance policy and the wording in the policy was interpreted as Janice having content insurance, but that was not the case.  Three educated people looked into her policy and even these 3 people felt the writing of the policy to be ambiguous.  After reviewing the policy it was determined that there was no coverage for content insurance.   Janice has lost all her contents including all her furniture and household belongings and has no coverage for her expenses of living elsewhere for months while her home is being repaired.

Since receiving the devastating news about her insurance coverage, Janice has suffered two vehicle breakdowns that have added to her financial strain.

Lets pray for her that this is the last of her bad fortune.   She and DK have lost a lot.  We need to come together to help her.  The emotional stress, the guilt and pride Janice is going through have made it hard for her to reach out or tell her story to many of her closest friend until now.  The funds being raised will go to replacing Janice's housing supplies, kitchen appliances, furniture, clothing, transportation & car repairs, and living expenses including rent at her temporary accommodations as well as her ongoing mortgage on her home being repaired.

Everything helps, Thank You.
