Hello! My name is William Langford and I am hiking the Appalachian Trail to raise awareness around mental health. I plan to do this by having open and vulnerable conversations around this with people I interact with on trail. I move through and navigate depression and anxiety every day , so this is very tangible in my life. By doing this, I hope to break down the stigma around mental health especially for folks that look like me, as this is typically not talked about openly in my experiences.
I am donating to Green River Preserve, a non profit summer camp that also does expeditions and outdoor education. By donating to the scholarship fund, I believe it will get children outside and give the the opportunity to spark a passion for the outdoors, which I believe is the some of the best mental health medicine possible. I know this varies from person to person, but this is the best medicine for my mental health and I have seen the power it can have on a child. I am a product of Green River , as I went there for the first time when I was 14 and am about to embark on my 5th summer working there, this time as one of the leaders on the Blue Ridge Expedition.
