Becky's little swim across the English Channel

I was struggling a bit with life a few years ago, having lost my husband and becoming the sole provider for my three children.  Coming from a water loving family, my sister reintroduced me to open water swimming which set me off on a journey that has uplifted me and motivated me to the point where I now feel capable of swimming to France. 

I hope that by swimming the 36.2 kilometres (22.5 mi)  from Dover to Calais, that I will be able to raise some money to benefit the Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit who are based on the waters I train and play in.  I try to swim in the sea at least two to three times a week, rain or shine, snow or heatwave and am very aware of how lucky we are to have such an abundance of sea life still in our oceans.  On my coast we have plenty of magical jellyfish, starfish and other sea creatures  which I see below the waters whilst swimming, I am also often joined by an inquisitive seal.   The CRRU not only helps protect the local wildlife, it also educates people on the sea and the environment and is raising funds to build a new education centre in the North Coast of Scotland.
