Box2Grow Let's fight for equality!

A boxing project to empower girls and women

who live in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Medellín Colombia!

Help us realize this project so we can see strong, happy, and independent women!

We are providing girls and women, between the ages of 7 and 25 years who are disadvantaged by poverty and gender violence the tools necessary to improve their self-confidence and self-esteem. This program will ultimately empower them to use their voice by coming together and building a better future for themselves and their community.

They will receive boxing classes and social and emotional skills training for 12 months.  

We need your support to make this happen! 




Why we want to do this:

The neighborhood La Honda in Medellín is "Strata 0-1", which means families live well below the poverty line. They live without access to basic resources and often without public services and many live in inadequate housing. 

 Problems females have in such neighborhoods in Medellín:

--They often have to raise younger siblings or their children alone as their parents are at work or their father's children are not around. 

- They are in danger of joining gangs in order to feel a sense of belonging.

- They have a higher risk of drug addiction and teen pregnancy because they lack emotional support and sex education. 

- They are at risk of entering prostitution. Few jobs are flexible enough to be able to raise children and that do not have any requirements. 

- With the dominant masculine culture, females are at high risk of becoming victims of gender violence.

What we want to achieve: 

1. Developing social and emotional skills
2. Increasing self-confidence, self-esteem and self-reflection
3. Learning how to interact in social and professional settings
4. Learning how to deal with sexism and violence associated with the masculine culture
5. Motivate to achieve educational and professional goals


Why did we choose boxing as a vehicle:

- Strength and energy for the body & mind
- Boxing is a good emotional outlet
- Growth of confidence
- Body-awareness and self-defense
- Male-dominated sport
- Pushes boundaries in sport & in life
- Variety and fun


Our costs: 

For 40 participants it will cost $50 per person, per month.
14 hours of class per month ($3.57 per hour, per person)

That would be $2.000,00 total per month
*This is including boxing classes, social and emotional skills training, material,  overhead costs.

Covered by donations and free for every participant! 


Our ambassadors:

Lorena Klijn is our ambassador in the Netherlands.  She is a professional kickboxer in the Netherlands and is part of Glory, which is the first stand-up international martial arts competition in the Netherlands. 



 Veronica is our Hero. She came to la Honda displaced by violent conflict. She started boxing in a similar program to change her life. With boxing, she found discipline, dedication, empathy, and kindness. She left school to take care of her two sons. This year she was able to graduate and finish her training as a hairdresser. She will be our boxing teacher for the younger girls in the project.
