Fundraiser for transportation and funeral expenses to Puerto Rico
Kelvin Soto Crespo, 20, of Yabucoa, Puerto Rico has been missing in Lake Michigan since May 1st.
He was one of four people on an 18-foot Bayliner Saturday afternoon that capsized in 8- to 10-foot waves and 50-degree cold water offshore from the East Chicago Marina.
The boat was recovered approximately 10 miles from the accident location.
His family appreciates all the hard work and resources the police and U.S. Coast Guard are using to search the lake and recover his body.
Kelvin’s dad flew into Chicago to join the search for his son and plans to return his body to Yabucoa, Puerto Rico.
We ask the community to please remain alert along the lakeshore while the search for this young man continues. If you spot any items or debris that may be associated with the boating incident, please call Indiana Conservation Officers Central Dispatch Center at [phone redacted].
Kelvin moved to Chicago last year and is loved by his family and friends. He is remembered as a shy, quiet, and dedicated young man who liked to sit and chat with the elderly. He was the youngest child, and his parents were very overprotected. Even though he was far away from home, his parents were always calling, texting, and watching over him.
As authorities and his family continue searching for Kelvin, we ask the community to help us Carry Kelvin Home. This is a fundraiser for his final transportation and funeral expenses. PLEASE above we urge you to keep your eyes on the shoreline or if your on a boat help us find him.

Él era uno de cuatro personas en el Bayliner de 18 pies en la tarde del sábado que se hundió contra olas de 8 a 10 pies y agua fría de 50 grados cerca de la costa de East Chicago Marina.
Su familia agradece todo el esfuerzo y recursos que la policía y el U.S. Coast Guard está utilizando para buscar y recuperar su cuerpo del lago.
El padre de Kelvin, viajó a Chicago para ayudar en la busqueda de su hijo y tiene planes de regresar su cuerpo a Yabucoa, Puerto Rico.
Le pedimos a la comunidad que esté alerta a lo largo de la orilla del lago mientras la busqueda por este joven continua. Si ven cualquier artículo asociado con este incidente, favor llamar a Indiana Conservation Officers Central Dispatch Center al número [phone redacted].
Kelvin se mudo a Chicago hace un año y es querido por su familia y amigos. Lo recuerdan como un joven tímido, tranquilo, dedicado a su trabajo y alguien que le gustaba sentarse a hablar con los ancianos. Él era el hijo más joven de sus padres quienes siempre lo protegieron mucho. Aunque él se encontraba lejos de su casa, sus padres siempre lo llamaban, enviaban texto y miraban sobre él.
Mientras las autoridades y su familia continúe buscando por Kelvin, le pedimos a nuestra comunidad que nos ayuden a llevar a Kelvin a casa.
