Chicano Winter Kit
Donation protected
We are raising funds for basic winter kits for the Chicanos.
Donations go towards the cost of the Winter Kits requested plus the cost of shipping items out that cannot be dropped off locally.
We were able to supply several camping kits to families these past summers - let's do it again! We would be extremely grateful for your help in removing this barrier so that everyone can enjoy the outdoors. We’re trying to dispel the stereotype that Chicanos/Latinos don’t have any relationship or connection to the outdoors but also address the reality that there’s limitations to access.
REQUEST A KIT: To get a kit you must be a part of the Chicano Runners and send us an email with the the number of family members, ages, and mailing address. That's it! No need to "prove" need - we'd like to make it as simple as possible.
KITS: Will contain the following (vary depending on inventory and availability)
Gloves
Socks
Goggles
Buff
Base layers
Jacket
Pants
Boots
ABOUT US: Chicano Runners and Loco Hiking Club is all inclusive & diverse (men, women, all ethnicities, races, background, etc.). Also, check out our women's group: PNW Ladies Running Group.
Per Washington Hikers and Climbers, “outdoor spaces everywhere should be places for everyone to share their love of nature, especially those who have been historically disenfranchised. We need to work together as a community of outdoor enthusiasts to ensure that everyone, including people of color, have the opportunity to recreate and enjoy the benefits of our wild American spaces, and can do so without fear of harassment, hostility or suspicion.”
Exposure & access to the great outdoors Is what we all need for our physical health and mental health.
We are working on ways to get more involved with exposing BIPOC to the outdoors, in particular the PNW. If you have any ideas, resources, or want to get involved, please join the Facebook group or follow us on Instagram.
