Covering Distance To Make a Difference Autoimmune Research
Hey, my name is Nate Sutherland. I am a 19-year-old university student with a goal to raise money for autoimmune research in Canada by Running 100km non stop from Centre Wellington to Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto Ontario on May 19th 2024. I have always been passionate about science and medicine, and care to see the progression of research in these fields particularly with a focus on autoimmune diseases. Many of my peers and those close to me have been diagnosed with these diseases over the last few years. Of course, no one wishes to have a disease of this severity affect them, especially at such young ages which are supposed to be the best years of your life. For some however this is a reality, but I do not believe that a diagnosis should be the end of someone's story. So I will be doing this run and gathering funds to hopefully make it closer to a cure or better treatment for these diseases. This goes further than just the money and the distance run though. I hope that through doing this those dealing with autoimmune-related issues can feel a sense of support as we as a community recognize what they deal with, and seek to further the resources available to them.
