Crystal's Broken Jaw

Donation protected
On Oct. 30, a stray kitten showed up on our porch. She meowed frantically. Of course we let her in the house! I discovered she had a healing abrasion on her head, and that her mouth seemed messed up. She or he also had diarrhea as well as being just a pitiful skin and bones severely underweight little kitty. How she survived the coyotes and owls...! I tried what I could to end the diarrhea, as she was otherwise not showing any signs of pain. Kitty, as she was not named yet, did have pus and matter around her nose and in the front of her mouth. I cleaned her mouth out with warm saline water and applied a salve to her head wound and to her other end, as it was getting sore and inflamed from her runny stools.  After three days of this or so, I decided it was time for a vet visit.

The vet took one look at her mouth, said, the jaw is broken. It came down to put the kitten down or get surgery to fix the jaw. I am poor. There it is. I faced a vet bill that was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be but still hefty enough. Or pay about half of that to have the kitten humanely euthanized.

I chose to get the surgery. I just could not have the kitten put down. She had lived with me for days now, she trusted me, she has this sweet personality that reminds me more of a puppy than a cat. She wakes up from her naps wanting cuddles, wanting to play a bit. She exhibits an appetite though it must hurt to eat.

Whatever happened to her before she showed up on the porch I will never know. But I can make sure she's safe and warm and fed and very much loved. That I can do. Thank you. The picture is the kitten and another stray I found around Christmas last year. Brigit and Crystal or Lola. Crystal for Camp Crystal Lake, as she showed up near Halloween. Brigit, because I found her near a bridge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The funds will go to cover the cost of the vet care and any meds or special supplies that might be needed.
