80th Anniversary - D-day Landings
Donation protected
Hi my name is Jonathan Sheppard and on behalf of myself and my family and friends, we are trying to raise funds for the upkeep and development, of The Living Memorial site in Rettendon, Essex.
In addition to honouring the servicemen and women who have lost their lives in conflict and war over the past 50 years, The Living Memorial have also agreed to support and remember those who fought in WW2.
One of those, is my father, Sapper Donald Sheppard who was a Royal Engineer attached to The Highland Division and served as a Dispatch Rider during the conflict.
Dad was also one of thousands of young men who landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6th 1944 as part of the D-day landings, named Operation Overlord.
Now 103 years old, Dad would love to attend the 80th anniversary of the D-day landings in Rettendon as he is now to frail to return to France to pay his respects to all his comrades who never returned.
We are trying to raise funds to support this memorial and ensure that The Living Memorial site can continue to grow so that there is a place in Essex where people can visit to remember and pay their respects to all the men and women who have lost their lives defending their country.
Thank you
