Our father, Long time local Island artist Douglas John Kent, known for his vast body of work ranging from elusive abstracts, landscapes and mystical animals, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2023 after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
My sister and I had been working for many months to try to get him home to the Vineyard but unfortunately there isn’t the care he needed or the resources to help him come home.
We are fundraising for a memorial bench in his name at Polly Hill Arboretum, where he worked for decades and was a very special place for him and our family. Nature has always inspired our father and visiting Polly Hills is the closest we feel to him now and we would love to have his name permanently on a bench where we could go and visit with his 5 grandchildren.
Our father died leaving us the legacy of his paintings and we are lucky to have so many of his paintings in storage but we are struggling to preserve his work and would like to catalog the works we have in storage so we can show them again someday.
We will use any extra money to help with costs towards the storage and preservation of his large collection of artworks.
Thank you very much for any contribution towards our dad’s memorial and work. We miss him more then we can express right now and this feels like the only way we know to have his name in a place he loved and in some sense to bring him home.
