Brighton to Tarifa Bike Ride for First Base
I'm proud to have worked for BHT Sussex in a variety of roles over the last 20 years and have always been in awe of the commitment of the staff at First Base, BHT's centre for homeless people. With the housing crisis it's work is vital. I'm cycling from Brighton to Tarifa, the southernmost town in Spain (1740kms), leaving on the Autumn Equinox, September 23rd. First Base offers a place to have a shower, get a meal and get housing advice and specialist support. Physical and mental health needs and drug and alcohol issues can be addressed and an opportunity to escape the harsh existence on the streets. In the UK the average age of death for rough sleepers is 45 for men and 42 for women. First Base saves lives and it would be good to get some donations to them as they prepare for the colder months ahead. BHT's mission is "Combatting Homelessness- Creating Opportunities- Promoting Change" and I hope you can join in supporting this.
