Restore the Gandhi Statue Waikiki
Donation protected
The Friends of the Gandhi Statue Waikiki was started to transform the Gandhi statue from a small, hidden, afterthought to a notable, well visited, Waikiki landmark.
Now, the statue gets lost in the shade because the patina is so dark and even though it is close to a major intersection across from Queen's surf, and marks the beginning of Kapiolani Park, it is almost invisible.
Over 5 million people visit Oahu each year from all over the world, mostly in Waikiki. By elevating the Gandhi statue to a landmark status, we hope that Gandhi’s message of peace and non-violent social change will reach more people and help in the transformation to a more peaceful society that we so desperately need.
Although the city supports our efforts and the statue’s sculptor, Stephen Lowe endorses the project we are taking on the burden of raising funds and doing the work. We have already raised $10,000 and need $20,000 more to complete Phase I. Won't you help?
Please contribute in any way that you can (donate, repost in Facebook, add a comment, Like). Don’t forget to check out our super cool gifts.
