Support NOTL news

I am Ryan Crawford, the chef/owner of Backhouse Restaurant and our pop-up Ruffino's Pasta Bar and Grill here in NOTL. Like many of you, I rely on The Lake Report to keep me informed about what is happening in our community. The newspaper and its NiagaraNow.com website are invaluable sources of information about our town. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I am asking everyone in NOTL to consider pitching in a few dollars to help support the first-rate, professional journalism that The Lake Report produces.
It costs more than $3,000 just to print and distribute The Lake Report each week. Wages, rent, hydro, etc. are on top of that. Unfortunately, with many businesses closed, it means advertising revenue is down and small community newspapers are facing uncertain times. That's why we're fundraising for $30,000 to go directly towards 10 weeks of news for our community.
Here is a message from Richard Harley, editor of The Lake Report and niagaranow.com:
"With the threat of COVID-19 in our neighbourhood, it is my sincere hope that you and your families are healthy and staying safe. Right now it's more important than ever for us to follow social distancing measures as much as possible to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
But to do that, it helps to know what's going on in our town, to stay connected to our community, and to know the emergency measures being taken right outside your doorstep — not just the provincial and federal outlook.
At this time, accurate, local news is more important than ever. Especially to our seniors who are most at risk.
At Chef Ryan Crawford's suggestion, we are using this GoFundMe campaign to ask for your help to keep the news coming to the people of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Any donation helps – $10, $20, $50, $100 or more.
We understand that this global health crisis has created exceptional circumstances for us all. If you are able to help, in any way, it is sincerely appreciated. If the above options are not feasible at this time, we understand. The Lake Report will still try its very best to bring you the best Niagara-on-the-Lake news week in and week out."
On behalf of The Lake Report, I am asking for your help to keep news coming to the people of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Myself and the staff at Ruffino's and The Lake Report sincerely appreciate your continued generosity.
