Handicap Accessible Chairs for the Lake

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Karalyn Williams, I am trying to help raise funds for MCL park.
Here is a little more information behind my passion and goal:
Over the course of my mother's journey and her passing, I have been deeply touched by the unwavering support and compassion you have all shown to both her and our family. From the depths of my heart, I extend my sincerest gratitude.
Before she departed, my mother shared a heartfelt wish with me – she implored that her memory would endure and not fade away. It's a sentiment that has weighed heavily on my mind, prompting me to explore meaningful ways to honor her legacy and simultaneously benefit others. As I reflected on the places that held significance for us, the tranquil beauty of Mauch Chunk Lake emerged prominently in my thoughts.
With this inspiration, I began to contemplate ways in which we could assist others, particularly those facing challenges similar to my mother's. I reached out to the authorities overseeing the lake and delved into inquiries regarding accessibility features, particularly those aligned with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). While they have made commendable efforts, including the installation of a water-accessible ramp, I discovered a vital need that remains unaddressed – the absence of handicap-friendly beach chairs.
Fueled by determination, I took a step further and presented a comprehensive proposal during a recent board meeting. The outcome was positively in favor of my endeavor. The proposal I laid out entails initiating a fundraising campaign with the ultimate aim of acquiring beach wheelchairs. These wheelchairs will not only serve as practical tools but also as powerful symbols, as one of them will bear an inscription in loving memory of my dear mother, Melissa A. Dietrich.
Here, I humbly extend an invitation to our community, inviting you all to participate in this meaningful project. Together, we can work towards making the lakefront a place of inclusivity and enjoyment for everyone, regardless of physical limitations. It is My heartfelt belief that no individual should be hindered from relishing precious moments with their loved ones due to a disability.
To make this vision a reality, I have set a goal of raising $3,000, which will cover the acquisition of two beach wheelchairs. All funds raised will be directly given to this project.
It brings me great joy to share that the commissioners and esteemed board members of the lake have expressed their commitment as well. They are actively considering additional budget provisions to potentially introduce two more beach wheelchairs and to facilitate the necessary repairs to the ramp, thus enhancing overall accessibility.
In closing, I express my deepest appreciation for your continued support, both emotionally and now, potentially through your contribution to this endeavor. Let us join hands and hearts to ensure that the legacy of my beloved mother, Melissa A. Dietrich, lives on through acts of kindness, inclusivity, and the enduring beauty of the lake we hold dear.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Karalyn

My Proposal to MCL Park:
Good morning everyone, and thank you for granting me the opportunity to address you today. I'm Karalyn Williams, and I greatly appreciate your time. I reached out this past week to inquire about the availability of handicap access at the lake and whether there are adaptive wheelchairs to cater to individuals with ADA requirements. I was then informed of the upcoming board meeting. My motivation for delving into this matter is deeply personal—it's connected to my mother.
Regrettably, my mother recently lost her battle with cancer. She held a profound affection for the lake, and I am keen on honoring her memory by contributing something meaningful to a place she cherished. The reason behind my inquiry is rooted in the past. When my mother was still with us, we frequently utilized similar chairs during our visits to various Vacation beach locations. These chairs, beyond assisting those with disabilities, also prove invaluable to the elderly. While we acknowledge the existing ramp that facilitates lake access, a wheelchair-friendly device would usher in a new level of freedom. The presence of such a device wouldn't confine an individual to a specific area. I recall my mother opting to sit on the grass beside the ramp, as walking on sand posed challenges for her. As children, we were unable to enjoy the sandy shores, as my mother's mobility was hindered. It's imperative that we promote inclusivity, granting everyone access not only to the lake but also to essential amenities like restrooms and concession stands.
I am genuinely convinced that this enhancement would greatly benefit the lake community. I've conducted some research into the procurement costs, and I've compiled a few options from online sources, which I have brought along. My plan involves raising the necessary funds through platforms like GoFundMe, and potentially organizing other fundraisers. It is my request that both the donation of funds and the wheelchair bear a dedication in her memory. If feasible, I propose incorporating a marker that reads "In Memory of: Melissa Dietrich."
With the collective support of our community, I am confident in my ability to secure the funds within a span of two months. Ideally, I aspire to have this equipment delivered before the current year's season draws to a close.
Thank you for considering this proposal. I look forward to the possibility of creating a lasting tribute to my mother's love for the lake, while also enhancing accessibility for all.
