Help A Student Author Get to Her Book Launch

Hi, I'm Jada Brown. I am a student author who wrote a book with the Freedom Writers Foundation called "Dear Freedom Writer." In late March, the Freedom Writers Foundation and Penguin Random House are hosting a book launch for student authors and their original Freedom Writer respondents. After being devastated by Hurricane Ida, my family and community find ourselves in need of help getting there. All help in any amount is greatly appreciated. In Dear Freedom Writer, 50 handpicked students from our Freedom Writer Teachers, share their struggles with abuse, racism, discrimination, poverty, mental health, imposed borders, LGBTQIA+ identity, and police violence. Each story is answered with a letter of advice from an original Freedom Writer or a Freedom Writer Teacher. Writing with empathy and honesty, you helped us answer these young people not with the platitudes of a politician or celebrity, but with the wisdom of someone who has dealt with these same issues and come out on the other side.

Through its eye-opening and inspiring stories, Dear Freedom Writer paints an unflinchingly honest portrait of today's youth and offers a powerful message of perseverance, understanding, and hope.
