During the pandemic in 2020, the notorious camp Moria on Lesvos burnt down. Thousands of families were displaced elsewhere in Greece. Many NGOs left the island, and their support disappeared. However, the island gave rise to a new ‘temporary’ camp, Mavrovouni. Many refugee families stay in tents, even during the cold winter. A quarter of them are children, who especially suffer from poor circumstances. They live in great poverty, without education and proper care.
With an ongoing war in Europe, especially these children risk falling out of our sight!
We have come together with experienced NGOs to establish a new healing environment for children. While our partners take care of the most basic needs, by placing container classrooms, education and daycare, we are taking care of all the space in between. To create a truly inviting healing space for children, in which they can forget they are living in a refugee camp, in which they feel safe and get the care they deserve.
It is beautiful to see all the support for the Ukrainian children but let us not forget these other refugee children, having escaped the horrors in the Middle East, who are now living in misery within the borders of the EU. They also need our dearest attention!
We ask for a favor to support our mission in helping these children!
Where and when?
Our project team will be at the Mavrovouni camp on Lesvos this April and May to design and build for the children. Follow us on social media to follow our journey: LinkedIn or Instagram.
How will your money be spend?
All of your money will go towards the project on Lesvos. This will include costs in material, transport, design, modelling, engineering, construction and manual labor.

About our foundation
Office for the New Earth (ONE) is an ANBI certified foundation focussing on children in need by designing and building healing places were they can rest, feel safe, play, and most importantly learn to love themselves. Since 2018 we have been both designing and building several projects for children in Greece. This has varied from building a diverse playground that stimulates children in their curiosity and play; renovating a library into a nice place for calmness and retreat; and building a multifunctional classroom patio, a place for creativity and social connection.
What is a healing space?
A healing space is an environment that helps children in feeling better. A good healing space stimulates their curiosity. It brings social connection and new friendships. It challenges their minds playfully. It also offers a sense of safety and peace. But most of all, it makes them feel better about themselves. The most important design feature is including nature in space, through abundant daylight, a lot of plants and building with natural materials like wood.
