Help Emery get a Medical Alert Dog

Hi, my name is Bobbi Maxwell and I’ve started this gofundme to help my daughter Emery get a medical alert dog.

Emery is 5 years old, and she has been diagnosed with Septo-Optic Dysplasia, Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, Hypopituitarism, Hypothyroidism, Celiac’s Disease, and Adrenal Insufficiency since about 5-6 weeks old. We spent 2 months in the NICU after she was born before we finally got to come home with a feeding tube, and all of her medications. She is legally blind, and will be on medication for the rest of her life. Her Adrenal Insufficiency means that she can crash and go into Adrenal Crisis randomly, which is fatal if left untreated. We have learned over time that Emery’s sugars plummet right before the crisis starts, it is essentially the beginning of the crisis. Unfortunately we have not been able to catch her sugars in time and bring them back up, causing us to call and ambulance and be rushed to McMaster Hospital to treat her. We are hoping to get a medical alert dog who will be trained to detect low sugars and alert us before it is too late, and give us a chance to stabilize her sugars, thus avoiding a hospital trip and a crisis, as well as dually train the service dog to also help Emery with her vision as a guide dog.
