Help Feed Underprivileged Kids & Keep Them in School!

Hello everyone,

We are a small group of volunteers (Vietnam Hearts) teaching English at an underprivileged school in Binh Thanh Ward, Saigon, Vietnam. This school is more than just a place for learning - it’s a lifeline for children who would otherwise have no access to education.

Vietnam Hearts, started in February 2025, is a volunteer-run initiative based in Ho Chi Minh City, founded on the belief to chọn yêu thương — to choose love, even when it is difficult, just as others have shown love and kindness to us. To recognize and celebrate the kindness by the Vietnamese community.

Education has given us the opportunity to lift ourselves and others around us. We provide free English classes and ongoing support to children who would otherwise be out of school. Many of our students come from families living in poverty, with some forced to collect recyclables or sell lottery tickets to help their families survive. Beyond lessons, we work to fill the gaps — school supplies, lunches, and whatever else a child needs to stay in school, keep learning, and simply enjoy being a kid.

What we've accomplished together:

Since our founding, Vietnam Hearts has grown into a thriving community of over 200 volunteers from across Vietnam, the US, Australia, Europe, France, and beyond. Together, we have raised over $10,000 to support children's education and health, delivered more than 100 English classes across four class groups serving nearly 70 enrolled students, and supported a school with a total capacity of 200 children.

Our work goes beyond the classroom. We partnered with FPT Medical to provide 199 vaccinations for students, and collaborated with Can-Clover — the pediatric cancer support program under the VinaCapital Foundation — to host a joyful English class for children undergoing cancer treatment. We've organized field trips, including a sports day with Rugby Cùng Nhau, a McDonald's outing, and a dental education session led by French exchange students. A season of art classes was run in partnership with Mind the GAP Youth Arts, and we began monthly rice distributions of 230kg starting March 2025, continuing to this day.

During the holiday season, we prepared care packages for our students — celebrating Christmas and New Year with gifts totaling over 15 million VND, including study and cooking supplies for their homes.

Every contribution — your time, your donation, your presence — is a choice to love. With your support, these children gain more than English skills. They gain a community, a chance, and the space to be children.

The Reality These Kids Face

The principal works tirelessly, going door to door and visiting the flea market to find children who do not attend school, inviting them to learn. Many of these kids come from extremely poor families and must skip school to work - selling lottery tickets, fruits, or collecting recyclables to survive, sometimes until midnight.

Our journey began in mid-February 2026 with just 8 students. Now, the school has grown to 40 kids, and we expect even more to join! However, approximately 22 of these children are at risk of dropping out because they must work to help feed their families.

One of these children is a 6-year-old boy who works from 6 AM to 11:30 PM just to earn enough money for food. No child should have to make this choice between education and survival.

How You Can Help

If we can provide these children with rice each month, they won’t need to skip school to work for food. This will directly allow them to stay in school and receive an education - giving them hope for a brighter future.

The principal estimates that each person consumes 2kg of rice per month.

Our primary goal is to use the funds raised to provide food for underprivileged families, ensuring that their children can attend school without the burden of working for their meals.
