Introduction
Hello and welcome to our page!
We are so glad you're here.
We are a team of six biology and geography students of mixed years from the University of Glasgow who were chosen by the universities exploration society to travel to Scotland's West coast, and carry out important scientific aquaculture research. This summer, over the course of 3 weeks our mission is to closely study Scotland's newly up and coming seaweed farms; seeking to answer if, as well as how they negatively disrupt the neighbouring marine wild life.

About
The Exploration Society supports teams of UofG students as they explore the world on zoological, geographical and marine expeditions. The earliest record we have of an expedition is in 1920 and over the past 100 years, hundreds of students have had the chance to undertake research in the field. Expedition teams carry out field research for 4th-year honours and masters projects, in a pursuit of publishing papers.

Our visions
We are in need of your assistance, not matter how little, we will welcome it with open arms and be truly grateful. With your help you can fund our expedition allowing us to gain life changing experiences to take forward in our lives and careers as well as produce research helping humanity take further steps to understanding our impact on our precious natural world, and to hopefully one day stop and perhaps even reverse some of the damage created already. For these reasons, it is essential that research into the environmental costs the UK's aquaculture industry creates on local ecosystems is undertaken, all in the hope to encourage management and create solutions.
Therefore is was apparent we had conduct experiments to observe the under studied area of seaweed farms and their potential impacts on marine life. Especially has more and more farms pop up across the country.

Projects/proposals
1. Exploring the impact of Scottish Seaweed farms on the biodiversity of benthic organisms.
Aims:
- To discover if there is a higher abundance of organisms living on the seabed directly underneath the seaweed farms than on the seabed of control sites.
- To discover if water turbidity differs significantly between the control sites and the seaweed farms and what impact this has on the abundance of benthic organisms.
2. Exploring the impact and success of Biofouling communities found on sugar kelp in three different Scottish seaweed farm sites.
Please contact us on GoFundMe or on our instagram for our full and detailed prospectus/methodology or any questions!
Thank you!!
If you can’t spare anything to donate we understand, however you can still help by sharing this page or any of our social media platforms to friends, family, companies (as we’ll gladly take sponsorships), etc!
