Help get retired fire chief Les Wagg home
Donation protected
Please help us give back to a (retired) Fire Chief who gave so much of himself to help so many others. The family of retired Salt Spring Island Fire Chief Les Wagg is asking for your assistance.
Les was born and raised on Saltspring island, with 4 daughters. One of which he adopted while she was a baby. Les was always the one you could count on, not only in his everyday life but in his professional one as well. As a young man, he joined the Saltspring Island Fire Department. Over time he climbed through the ranks eventually becoming the Fire Chief. He spent each moment giving everything he possibly could back to his family and his community. Les has always been a provider and although he would not want to ask for help, this is when he needs it.
While spending some of his retirement in Ontario Les suffered a major stroke paralyzing his left side. He spent 1 month in the hospital there until he was medically stable enough to be flown home to BC via air ambulance costing 58,000. Once in Victoria he spent another 2 months in the hospital. He is now in rehab and is hoping to return to his home in Sooke within a couple of months. Being fiercely independent and physically active before his stroke we as a family want to be able to bring him home so he can be where he wants to be and we believe he will have the best chance at happiness and recovery.
To do this his house and yard need some major modifications to make it wheelchair accessible including; a bathroom, ramps, some equipment such as a personal wheelchair, and an accessible bathtub.
We are hoping you can help us give him the independence he so desires and the quality of life he deserves in the house he built by way of donations in the form of cash, material, professional skills or labour.
We thank you in advance and appreciate your consideration.
