Urgent Support for Refugees in Crisis – Kaira
Donation protected
"My name is Cyara Kaira. I’m a transgender woman and a human rights activist. Right now, I’m living with 8 other queer refugees including children, some of them orphans. Some of them are HIV positive .
Our journey has been long and painful. We first lived in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. Life there was never safe we faced daily harassment, violence and discrimination just for existing. We lost lives there including children. We didn’t have protection even from the police. Just brutality until most the queer refugees had to flee the camp.
Most people left the camp some moving to other countries. I moved to South Sudan together with other queer refugees. We were allocated to Gorom Refugee Settlement where life is still full of fear. The government even chased us toward Juba, as if our lives don’t matter.
Today, we at least have a roof over our heads but that’s where it ends. We have no food. No bedding. No mosquito nets to protect the children from malaria. No medicine when someone falls sick. We even struggle to pay for water and electricity.
We are just trying to survive and keep each other alive while hoping for a safer future. Any help you can give no matter how small will go toward food, bedding, medicine and basic bills so we can live with dignity.
Kindly consider sharing our stories. Our hope is in you and we truly thank you so much.
