Help a Hero: Support Manolo's Recovery from Boat Accident
Donation protected
Hi, my name is John Flynn, and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Manolo Acuña Zepeda, a beloved divemaster in Cozumel who risked his life to save others.
On July 25th, 20205, Manolo heroically pushed a group of divers out of the path of an oncoming speedboat that was illegally operating at high speed over Yucab Reef inside the protected marine park. In doing so, he was struck by the boat and severely injured by its propellers. All of this despite the fact he had his personal surface marker buoy (SMB) up to alert boats there were divers below or on the surface.
Thanks to Manolo’s selfless actions, lives were saved—but he now faces multiple surgeries and a long road to recovery. The hospital has informed us that his medical expenses will reach approximately 1,000,000 pesos (about $54,000 USD).
At this time, we’re asking for your help. Every donation—no matter how small—will go directly to supporting Manolo’s surgeries, treatment, and rehabilitation. He has extensive injuries to his leg, lower back, and ankles.
Manolo is not only a skilled divemaster (30 years experience) but a true hero. Let’s come together as a community and give back to someone who gave everything to protect others.
Thank you for your support and generosity. Please be advised that donations are being collected in Mexican Pesos. The current value is approximately 1 USD = 18.55 pesos and 1 CAD = 13.54 pesos.
