Help us make memories possible

Tax deductible
Lasting Memories is here to help individuals and their loved ones living in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire whose lives are affected by cancer. It provides financial assistance through grants to those who need it most and, once the pandemic restrictions have been lifted, it will fund and facilitate ‘Memorable Days’.

Lasting Memories is a registered charity run by a board of trustees on a voluntary basis. All board members have been personally affected by cancer and are driven by their experiences to support those in our local community facing similar situations. We are proud to say Lasting Memories is run entirely by volunteers, meaning almost every penny raised is used to help those affected by cancer in their time of need.

But we need your help. COVID-19 has had a huge impact on all of us, especially those suffering from cancer - some of the most vulnerable in our communities. We’ve already raised almost £12,000 from fundraising activities but need to generate more.  You could help families during one of the toughest challenges they will ever have to face. Please read on to see how you can make a difference.

Our Story

In 2017, Christian, our outgoing devoted brother and beloved husband lost his battle with cancer and passed away aged just 37. Only a year later we lost our mother to the same disease aged 62.

We were devastated but needed to channel our grief in a positive and constructive way. So we created Lasting Memories Cancer Trust as a way to help other families affected by cancer.

We know only too well the grief experienced in supporting a loved one through cancer. It is heart-breaking to see someone consumed by illness and the effect cancer has on all areas of their life, including relationships with family members.

Sadly, there are also financial considerations. According to Macmillan, four in five people are affected financially after a cancer diagnosis with the average person £570 worse off per month. And job losses due to COVID-19 have compounded the situation. Lasting Memories’ grants will help take the edge off by contributing to a heating or electricity bill that needs paying, an essential household repair, or the cost of private transport to an appointment.

We also know how important it is to create wonderful memories of loved ones during this time.

Here’s one of ours. This picture was taken at my (Luke’s) wedding. Christian had been diagnosed about six months earlier and had recently undergone surgery. At this point we all had a sense of dread for what lay ahead. We understand just how much memories matter and how they support us in our grief, hence naming our trust ‘Lasting Memories’.

How you can help

With your donations we will be able to offer more grants to more individuals and families and help remove additional financial worries.

Once Covid restrictions have been lifted, we will be able to roll out our ‘Memorable Days’. Memories are priceless, and with your help, we can facilitate days out to make them possible. ‘Memorable Days’ are carefully planned experiences, tailored to individual needs. We work with trusted third-party service providers to create customised experiences, where individuals and their families or friends can escape from the stress of cancer for a short time. A wonderful opportunity to make lasting memories.

The pandemic has meant that many people with cancer have been isolated, unable to spend time away from home with family and friends. Some have not been able to leave their home since March 2020. None of us know when these restrictions will be lifted. However, thanks to vaccines, there is light at the end of the tunnel and, with your help, we would love to be in a position to offer ‘Memorable Days’ to as many as possible as soon as it’s safe to do so.

‘Memorable Days’ could include:

•      Weekend Breaks
•      Concert Tickets
•      Sports Events
•      Bucket List
•      Overseas Trips
•      Bespoke Experiences

The £5,000 we hope to raise from this campaign will mean, aside from helping families financially, we can start working with them to plan their memorable days. With your generous donations, once restrictions are lifted we can set straight to work organising trips so memories can be made as soon as possible.

Please help us to help those affected by cancer and make lasting memories - because memories matter.
