Blossom K. Ruffins daughter of New Orleans musician Kermit Ruffins was born at 37 weeks— March 24, 2022. A victim of gun violence in utero. Mom (Harmonese Pleasant) was walking outside her home in Treme, talking on the phone when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach. Harmonese didn't know where it came from. Turns out she had been shot in her abdomen. She was rushed to UMC, where the ER doctors had to do an emergency c-section vertically. Once the baby was delivered, Blossom was airlifted to New Orleans Children's Hospital while mom was still undergoing surgery. Harmonese was admitted for days and couldn't see her newborn until she was discharged from the hospital.

Friends of the family started this GoFundMe to help with Blossoms medical and living expenses.

Blossom is now dealing with underlying conditions. Such as a gunshot wound into the chest cavity, spinal cord injury at birth that could possibly prevent her from mobility under the belly button, bullet fragments currently in her body, and hematuria. Blossom had to spend weeks in the NICU to monitor her breathing + feedings. She is now eight months and has over $60K worth of medical bills. Blossom’s parents are in the works of building a home which will have all the necessary things she will require.
