For many decades, Mr. Dixon has been a selfless and caring neighbor and friend to countless families and individuals in inner NE Portland. His enduring generosity and loving spirit seek no reward, but a time has now come when he needs our support.
Many of you may know Mr. Dixon through his delicious home made BBQ, which he has been dishing up at community events and street fairs for many years. As you may have learned recently, his hand-made smoker/BBQ (and trailer) were stolen from his home near NE Alberta Street on May 15th. As his sole source of earned income, this has been terrible news for Mr. Dixon. We hope to replace his equipment and get him up and running for the summer BBQ season and beyond.
You may also have heard that he is simultaneously facing an even greater crisis. The modest rental house that has been his home these many years is going up for sale, and many of us are desperate to find a way to keep Mr. Dixon in the neighborhood and close to our hearts. As you can imagine, the housing challenge is a difficult one, and we are appealing to any individuals or organizations who may be able to help financially or with other resources in the search for an appropriate and affordable place for Mr. Dixon to hang his hat.
Mr. Dixon is hardly the only member of our community to face hardship and uncertainty, but our hope is that the seeds of love that he has planted over so many years can grow to help shelter and support him in this challenging phase of his life. Thank you all - large and small.
