Recovery of Justin Corpolongo-Brutal Stab Victim

On 10/21/19, Justin Corpolongo was nearly stabbed to death by his roommate, leaving him disemboweled with his intestines severely perforated. After hours of complex surgery, the surgeons told us it was a miracle that he made it out alive. We found out that the steak knife used in the stabbing was millimeters away from major arteries.
He is incredibly blessed and with the help of his amazing surgeons, his surgeries were successful. Justin is lucky to be alive, but it is still a long road to complete recovery. While in the hospital, he developed post-surgical complications which needed critical attention. In addition, given the severity of the case, the type of abdominal surgery and the weapon used, his doctors tell us that there is a particularly high risk for a dangerous type of infection.
Not only has this tragedy impacted Justin’s health and well-being, he will also not be able to return to work for an undetermined amount of time. He was working as a high school teacher with special needs children full-time. In addition to this, he worked at a restaurant at night to be able to live on his own after college and work on paying off his student loans. His parents have also both taken time off from work to be there with him at the hospital and take care of him at home after being discharged.
Justin has always been responsible, loving, honest and loyal to his family and close friends. He attended college at St. John’s University in Queens, where he was an all-star lacrosse player and high honors student. Justin and his family thank everyone that was there to help him get to the hospital, as well as the amazing physicians who saved his life. It is a very emotionally, physically and mentally draining time for Justin and his loved ones. Even after nearly losing his life, Justin still keeps smiling and will do what it takes to get healthy and get back to his students. We appreciate all of your support given the continued burden of medical bills and rehabilitation costs. A very large portion of the costs for Justin’s surgeries and recovery are not covered by insurance, and the other party involved in this incident refuses to help pay.
