My name is James Tanner. I'm an American and my wife is originally from the Philippines from the city of Lipa in Batangas, about 1.5 hours south of Manila. We spend our retirement years traveling and spending time with our friends and family in both countries of origin. We're currently staying at our home in the Philippines in the Barangay of Anilao which is about 21 kilometers from the Taal Volcano which recently erupted and forced the evacuation of thousands of its residents. I'm also a professional vlogger on YouTube (My PI Dream). The theme on my vlog is to help those who decide to retire in the Philippines find the resources needed to build a house here and assimilate into the Philippine culture. I'm also a member of the Rotary Club Lipa South chapter here in the Philippines where our main objective is to help those who are less fortunate and use our professional membership to facilitate projects in communities that improve the lives of those in those communities.
On January 12, 2020, Taal Volcano erupted. The volcano destroyed thousands of family homes and caused a mass evacuation of people and livestock. My wife and I are working with the local government to help these displaced families during this crisis. Our Barangay (Anilao, Batangas) is hosting over 100 of these families with more than 500 family members. The community shares in the moral responsibility to shelter and feed these unfortunate people. Our purpose for setting up this GoFundMe campaign is to share in this responsibility and generate funds with the goal to provide what is necessary to help these evacuees return back to a normal life once the volcano allows them to return to their homes. As soon as the donated funds are available and released they will be used to purchase clean water, food, clothing, and other necessities needed to sustain the displaced families during their status as evacuees. There will be full accountability of donated funds, purchases and release to the local governing community leadership.
Thank you for any support to help these families in this moment of crisis.
