Dear Friends and Lovers of Creative and Cultural Music,
Here is hoping that this message finds us all safe, warm, and grateful for the blessings and challenges of the upcoming year. We are eager to welcome the emerging spring, as winter melts away; making space for the next great things to happen in 2025.
Cafe CODA, now in its 8th year of operation, has realized its place in the tapestry of Madison’s cultural diaspora. In a time when small venues are closing at an alarming rate, CODA has survived through the thin times, by facilitating social events and parties during our ‘off’ season. For us, winter is the time when we struggle, due to inclement weather and post-holiday hibernations. As you can see, we are closed in January, but intensely planning for spring.
Yes, spring is a magic time for music as a life-affirming gift. CODA is poised to present concerts, exhibits, and neighborhood outreach activities beginning again in February.
COOL SCHOOL, CODA’s Saturday morning music session for kids resumes February 1, with sound and learning activities for youths ages 8 to 18 years. What is really cool is to witness young people of different social and cultural backgrounds come together to improvise. And admission is free.
CODAFEST 2025, March 7-9 will celebrate and showcase works of musical artists, spanning the idioms of creative music. This year’s headliner will be the incomparable young vocalist Jazzmeia Horn, who promises to deliver not just a concert, but a vocal experience to this midwest community.
Our recently-acquired ‘CODAMOBILE’, a 27’x18’ mobile stage, is ready and equipped with a complete PA system and backline for what we hope will schedule a spring and summer of numerous activities throughout the Madison community at large.
The objective of all our programs (and CODA itself) is to create experiences that are in line with sonic expression and human joy.
We are sending this message to solicit your financial support in the preparation and development of our 2025 initiatives. Anyone who knows about CODA knows that we are serious and committed to what we do. As one of the only minority-owned music venues in Dane County, much of our success is directly attributed to your support. So, let us please do what we can to keep Cafe CODA and its mission alive.
