Kevin's Double Transplant Recovery -Heart & Kidney
Donation protected
In September 2018, Kevin Walsh had a heart attack while flying home from a business trip. At the recommendation of two physicians on the plane the pilots turned the plane around, landed in Texas where he was taken to the nearest hospital. From there he was transferred to Baylor in Dallas to receive Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), to give him a bridge LVAD while he waited for a heart transplant. Kevin and his wife were in Dallas for 59 days until Kevin was well enough to travel back home to Charleston, South Carolina.
Within weeks of getting back home, Kevin was back to work at St Andrew's Parks and Playground. Kevin worked there until September 2020. Kevin just started working for the Town of Mt Pleasant only 2 weeks before getting the call on October 13th that there was a donor for his new heart and kidney.
Within about 12 hours of receiving his new heart, the right side started to worsen and in an attempt to save his life the providers put him on ECMO. To be placed on an ECMO and survive once is a miracle... to be placed on the ECMO twice is a double miracle! Kevin received his kidney the following day but has encountered many setbacks along the way including Sepsis and Sepsis Shock. Due to all the blood pressure medicines, his new kidney has not started working and Kevin is on dialysis.
Kevin is currently in ICU and we are praying for a full recovery. We have seen one miracle after another as each day he gets a little stronger.
Kevin is a fighter and he will prevail, he has a lot to live for including his wife, Nancy, 6 children, 5 grandchildren, a wonderful family, many friends, and a ton of siblings. We know the road to recovery is going to be hard and it may be months before Kevin and his wife can return to work full time.
Your amazing help and donations will enable Kevin to fully recover without having to worry about finances. To anyone who does not have any money to spare, please don't feel compelled to contribute financially. Your prayers, messages of love, and support mean so much more than we could ever explain.
