Kimberley Elaine Eadie - Memorial

Tree Dedication Program

Kim loved to be outside, looking for birds or insects, and enjoying walks and picnics with her loved ones. When it became clear that Kim would not be able to make any further memories outside of the hospital, we searched for a way to create something for her family and friends to enjoy after she was gone.

We would like to dedicate a tree through the City of Ottawa program in Kim’s memory. It will be located in Richelieu park, by the Vanier Sugar Shack, where Kim frequently walked with Arkell. Having collected sap in the park last year, we have fittingly chosen a Maple tree for Kim, hoping that it will grow large enough to be tapped one day. Visiting the tree and enjoying the park will allow her grandchildren to create new memories with Kim in mind, and further her legacy of nature appreciation.

Kimberley Elaine Eadie

After a horrible and unexpected diagnosis, Kim made the most of her last four weeks, hosting twenty people a day in a hospital room that the staff dubbed ‘the living room’. Always known for her warmth and kindness, she was a favourite of the Monfort Hospital staff as she maintained those traits until the end. In turn, their kindness and care will always be remembered with gratitude.

Loved by all who met her, Kim’s legacy as a teacher will persevere at Emily Carr in Blackburn Hamlet where she worked for 30 years. A natural nurturer, and a child at heart, she changed many childrens’ relationships with education. Her lifelong teacher friends should continue to have fun in her memory.

Kim had many, many friends that she made at all stages of her life. Everyone has a story, or many, about Kim. Her importance to people was illustrated by the help and support she and her family received at this difficult time.

She will be sorely missed by her large family; Rick, Dewy, James and Penny, her nieces and nephews, and her own mother Penny. One of her last wishes was for us to continue gathering together to reminisce about her and make more memories for new generations.

Kim leaves behind Al, her partner of 50 years, which was still not nearly long enough. The lack of her small presence will leave a large hole. Her children, Morgan and Nolan, will miss her daily acts of mothering which persisted into adulthood. She taught us how to be parents ourselves through the example she set. Her wisdom, bravery and strength will guide us through this difficult time.

Her truest calling was as a grandmother, which she embraced fully when Arkell was born. Her imagination and ability to play will live on in the stories we will tell to Logan and Winslow. We will remember her through the books that she saved for them, her perfect cursive handwriting on little notes, and the games she invented that we can carry on.

Kim left us far too suddenly and too soon; we all needed more time with her. The best we can do is live life to the fullest as she did, so when it is our time to leave, we also have few regrets.
