On Thursday the 4th of July, Three year old Riley suffered a stroke. Riley has been through so much in her little life and still has huge mountains to climb.

In 2021, Riley underwent open heart surgery at just 9 weeks old. During the surgery, her doctors diagnosed her with MSMDS. MSMDS is an incurable multisystemic disease affecting the brain, blood vessels, heart, aorta, lungs, liver, kidneys, bladder, eyes, and other organs with smooth muscle cells. MSMDS is a lifelong, non-improving condition and only 60 patients worldwide have been diagnosed, most of whom are children. Riley has also been diagnosed with dysphagia, a persistent cough, and Cerebral Palsy, which affects her motor skills.

Following her stroke - specialists and surgeons are looking into surgery... but want to make sure they have done their research so they can make the best decision moving forward. The first step would be an angiogram. Riley continues to face a long health journey ahead of her, which involves travelling to and from Perth Children’s Hospital - 3 hours from their home.

These Hospital trips will include check ups, countless appointments, surgeries and a long hospital stay’s following these surgeries.

Rileys parents, Steph and Henry, are managing this with their other two children, Kane (5) and baby Parker (4 months). Steph was supposed to return to work this month but can't until Riley is stable. Henry is needing to take extra time off work to care for their other children as well as be by Steph and Riley’s side.
