Malcolm’s Fight

Donation protected
Hello everyone. This is a page to tell Malcolm’s story. On Monday December 23rd after an MRI and CT scans our family received some devastating news that no family wants to hear, Malcolm who is only 5 months old has multiple bone tumours and that it is cancerous. On Christmas Day Malcolm was transferred by airplane from NBRHC to CHEO the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario for more testing and a proper diagnosis. After extensive testing like spinal tap, bone marrow extraction, bone biopsy, blood work they had a diagnosis. Leukemia. December 27th Malcolm was officially diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. This diagnosis is rough to digest for a boy so little and a loving family by his side. Malcolm’s parents Carolyn and Dylan and sister Kaylin are ready to fight along side Malcolm. Leukemia is a type of blood cancer that affects the body's white blood cells (WBCs). Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) happens when the body makes too many immature white blood cells. The immature WBCs are called myeloid blasts and cannot mature into normal white blood cells. This makes the body’s ability to fight infection and cancer cells hard to manage. December 28th is Malcolm’s first dose of Chemotherapy through a lower lumbar puncture, the rest of his chemotherapy will be through his Broviac line. With all the treatments to come Malcolm will be in hospital for about 6 months, with his immune system weakened time away from the hospital will be unlikely. Malcolm’s family is from North Bay, Sudbury in Ontario as well as Kelowna and Vernon, British Columbia. This fundraising is to help the family with expenses travelling to and from Ottawa, food, hotel and any health expenses that will be needed for Malcolm. Malcolm has a very humble and supportive family that love him dearly. Every single person who has heard this news have been extremely generous. All donations in any form have already helped the family in many ways. If you could please take a moment to donate and share this page. It will all be so appreciated by our family. For those wondering about other forms of donations, weary of Go Fund Me or have any questions please let me know. You can reach me by email at [email redacted]. All funds have and will be direct deposited into my account and sent immediately to Carolyn and family via etransfer. The goal amount is determined by a fundraiser working with Carolyn and Dylan.
