EMERGENCY APPEAL
We need a new home by February!
In August, we were given 1 month's notice to leave our beautiful feline home and head of operations for Mama Paka Zanzibar. Finding property is a slow and lengthy process in Zanzibar, so we have secured a temporary site for our 34 resident cats and staff for 6 months (until February next year) to keep us safe and to give us a little breathing space to find our new home.
Sadly, there is no space for our clinic and we are on the outskirts of Zanzibar City where the rent is cheaper but too far out for our community work. We have had to suspend most of our life-saving programmes.
We continue to search for a more suitable location to continue our kitten nursery, spay/neuter and community outreach programmes for the long term. We need your help to secure a new property (rent instalments are 6-monthly), and to cover transport costs and supplies to make moving as stress free as possible for the Mama Paka cats and to help us rebuild.
About Mama Paka
Since 2021, we have helped and treated over 1100 community cats and their caretakers for free. We have sterilised more than 830 cats, vaccinated and managed the health needs of four Stone Town colonies, and cared for more than 130 intensive-care cats and kittens in our specialist kitten nursery.
We do all of this for free. We work together with Zanzibar's community cat caretakers, who look after the thousands of cats and kittens in Stone Town. And we rely fully on donations and the generosity of our supporters to do this.
