Mary Fell Stevenson Chapter NSDAR is organizing this historic preservation fundraiser to restore the Stevenson's Grave Marker located at the Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park, Enumclaw, Washington.

In March 2023, the Mary Fell Stevenson Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution began working with the City of Enumclaw to preserve the historic gravesite of the city’s founders, Frank and Mary Fell Stevenson, and Mary’s father Joseph Fell who are all buried in Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park.

The Stevensons settled the area in 1879, enticing the Pacific Railroad to route their transcontinental mainline there by 1885. They then donated much of their original plat to encourage town growth, including land for the Presbyterian and Catholic churches, a cemetery, lumber company, and the town’s first school. At her death, Mary willed her home to the town to become the library.

The Stevensons gravesite is now over 100 years old. Because the Stevensons had no children, the Mary Fell Stevenson Chapter DAR has taken it upon itself to clean their grave markers and, in recent years, have found that there is growing deterioration to the granite headstones and their bases, as well as the granite walls surrounding the three crypts.

With the help of the Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park operators, our chapter has sought advice and bids for the repairs. Recommendations to restore the Stevenson marker include replacing the headstones and headstone bases with new pink granite, pulling away the gray granite surrounding walls in order to remove the cracked and decaying concrete between the crypts and the walls, refilling the area with unwashed round gravel, and returning and resetting the gray granite walls.

The total cost for this work is over $28,000.00 The city of Enumclaw has agreed to contribute financially, and the cemetery has agreed to complete a small portion of the overall project. Mary Fell Stevenson Chapter of the NSDAR has begun the process of applying for historic preservation grants, but is asking YOU, our community, if you would help in this endeavor. Our goal is to raise $10,000.00.

Mary Fell Stevenson DAR chapter is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. 100% of the money raised will go directly to pay for the materials and labor necessary for the project’s completion.
