Medical Asst. in getting a Hoyer Lift & Supplies

Some of you already know my husband Dwayne Powell had a massive stroke on Monday night June 4th, 2019. He was in critical condition at UK hospital in Lexington. We do not now what caused it. We think the problem started on Saturday while we were in town he got very dizzy and felt like he was going to pass out. It only lasted a minute and was gone but he had a really bad headache. We thought it might of been his blood pressure so we checked it several times over the evening and his number were all over the place from 179 / 117 to 128 / 74. He got up Sunday morning and said he had 2 more spells where he thought he was going to pass out and could not see for 4-5 mins. I took him to the ER and explained what was going on they ran a CT scan and found he did have a brain bleed but could not say when it happened or how old it might of been. By 2:00 pm his BP was in a normal range and stable they sent us home and said to follow-up with a Cardiologist and his Family Physician. At this time he said he was just very tired and wanted to sleep. He woke up Monday and said he didn't feel better or worse. I went to work and came home around 9:00 pm he said he felt like he had been to the dentist and had a Novocain shot, his right cheek and lip had been numb but said it went away. I told him that that was a sign of a stroke and that he needed to go back to the ER. He refused and was afraid they would just send him home again. He said, he just wanted to go to bed. Tuesday morning when he woke up he was very dizzy unable to stand without holding on to the wall for balance. I took him back to the ER explained everything that had happened and about the brain bleed they found on Sunday. They again did another CT scan where they found additional bleeds at this time so he was rushed to doing a MRI where they found both arteries in the back of his neck to his brain clogged and a large clot on the left side. The clot is in a inoperable place. They put him on blood thinner at this time and called Norton's Hospital to have him transferred but they had a 24 hour bed wait. While the doctor was giving this report Dwayne took a turn for the worse. He all of a sudden was unable to smile or speak from the left side of his face with no movement. No control over the tear ducts in that eye and it began running. And he was unable to swallow at this time. UK hospital was stat called and a Urgent Care chopper was stat-flighted to HMH to get him. With in 20 minutes he was not able to communicate with me and we said our Good-byes and I Love You's to each other.  He ended up having 6 strokes in the next 48 hours. Since this time he has had a permanent feeding tube placed and a Trach.  He is unable to  swallow, close his mouth or his eyes, which has caused eye infections in both eyes with a white haze covering his retinas. His is just starting to use his arms. He is able to move his legs really well. He is able to communicate with us by shaking his head if we ask Yes or No questions.   He stayed in UK, ICU for 6 weeks and then transferred to Kindred in Louisville where they started rehab and weaning him off the ventilator.  He ended up with pneumonia 3 times from aspirating on his tube feeding.  He was finally able to start breathing on his own. After 6 weeks there he was transferred to Kensington Nursing home here in Elizabethtown.  We have had a lot of problems with him not receiving proper care over the last 4 months from all of these facilities. He has been fighting pressure sores on his bottom from not being tuned and changed. His trach has over growing with skin from not being changed out on a timely manner.  And now he has to have another surgery in the next week to change it out.  Due to lack of care we are bring him home next week after the surgery where his mother and I will care for him.  But we are in need of a Hoyer lift and a over-sized wheelchair along with other medical supplies. Any help that can be given is so very much appreciated beyond what we can express.

Here is a picture of the lift I am hoping to get to lift him from bed to wheelchair to bedside commode.
