Mëwlnir the Mighty --> Mëwlnira the Mightier

Last year, I drove Mëwlnir nearly an hour, through a hurricane, to the only open vet that had the facilities to operate on him and could take him at such short notice. Never a fan of car rides at the best of times, and much less so when he was scared and in pain, he spent the whole trip screaming at the top of his tiny lungs, all while rain and wind beat the car like it was trying to break in, and highway signs flashed dire warnings of flood conditions and travel advisories that amounted to "don't."

It was dramatic, to say the least.

Fortunately, we got him there in one piece, and the lovely vet techs at NC State performed a smooth and successful surgery, removing the life-threatening blockage that had formed in his urinary tract.

"We see this in a lot of male cats, especially the orange ones," the vet warned me at the time. "Sometimes it just happens once in their lifetime and never again, but it if it happens more than once, then it's going to keep happening, and keep happening, for the rest of his life. If he develops another blockage, we can remove it again, but at that point, you'd be better off opting for a more permanent solution."

Reader, I think you can see where this is going.

Mëwlnir is in pain again. He can't use the litter box, he lacks energy, and he's visibly hurting – which, if you know cats, is a big deal. They hate showing any signs of pain or weakness. He needs his permanent solution, pronto.

So what is this "permanent solution"?  I'll spare you the gory details, but suffice it to say that Mëwlnir will become Mëwlnira, and the parts of her plumbing causing the problem won't exactly be a problem anymore.

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the local vet, who's very understanding of our financial situation, the surgery won't be as expensive as it could otherwise have been, but it's still more than we can afford on our own. It's imperative that we get him into surgery quickly because every day that passes is another day that he's in pain and another chance for the obstruction to grow larger and more life-threatening.

We turn to you, our beloved friends and family, to help any way that you're able. It's a cliche, but true, that every little bit helps. Times are difficult for everybody right now, so we know how meaningful any contribution is, no matter the size.

If you would rather contribute a loan, rather than a gift, that's perfectly understandable! Please feel free to reach out to either of us and discuss how and when we can best pay you back.

Thank you once again, from the bottom of our hearts, and most of all, from Mëwlnir(a)!
