Miles for Meals
Donation protected
The Miles for Meals 5 Mile Challenge is a virtual running challenge to raise money for doctors and caregivers’ meals at University Hospital!
University Hospital in Newark, NJ has dealt with an onslaught of patients infected with COVID-19, pushing their resources and health care workers to the limit. In addition to a shortage of protective gear, a third of their staff members have been forced to stay home as they have become infected or are caring for a loved one who is sick. In early April, a UH healthcare worker named Kim King-Smith passed away as a result of COVID-19.
Please support the healthcare workers who are battling the coronavirus pandemic on the front line. Every dollar will be donated directly to the University Hospital website to buy a $10 meal for the caregivers and doctors. A donation on our GoFundMe provides you entrance into the Miles for Meals 5 Mile Challenge on the Nike Run Club App.
Step-by-step instructions:
1. Download the Nike Run Club App on your phone
2. Click “Join Now” and create an account. Allow the app to know your location
3. Click “Start” to track a run (“Challenges” can be found in the fourth icon on the bottom)
4. Donate to this Miles for Meals GoFundMe
5. On Nike Run Club, click the 4th icon on the bottom. Here you will find the "Add Friend" icon which has a plus sign next to a person. Search up "[email redacted]" and add us as a friend.
6. Within 24 hours, you will be invited to the Miles for Meals Challenge, which will automatically appear in your “Challenges” inbox
7. Any mileage you run will count towards the 5-mile challenge. The higher the mileage, the higher the rank. You can walk, jog, sprint the challenge—it doesn’t matter
8. Unlock the Finisher Medal Achievement by completing the challenge!
This is open to everyone including students, athletes, coaches, parents, family, etc. Anyone who cumulatively runs the 5 miles will complete the challenge. This is a great way to stay connected with friends and teammates in quarantine while also supporting our heroic front-line doctors and caregivers.
This 5-mile challenge is organized by Cady Wang and Zaviay Bashay, both students at Union County Vocational Technical Schools.
