Build Montclair Village Plaza

Tax deductible
Donate to build an outdoor community gathering space with a safer urban infrastructure in Oakland's Montclair!

So far, the Montclair Village Association has raised $693,000 needed to fund a new Village Plaza.  Now, the Montclair Village Association (MVA) is reaching out to help close the gap. With just $100,000 to go, the village is so close!

Your gift will help repair a rundown street on Antioch Court to create a new beautiful space in Montclair Village for cultural events and community programming.  Area residents, small business owners, corporate partners, and local government are coming together to fund the Montclair Village Plaza: a capital improvement project in the heart of Oakland’s Montclair Village.

Three-hundred people have already sponsored the streetscape improvement by purchasing a personalized brick. Together, brick-buyers have raised over $130,000.  We challenge you to sponsor a brick (visit MontclairBricks.com ) and match your brick gift here in the GoFundMe.

With a construction cost goal of $750,000, the MVA, Montclair merchants, concerned residents of Oakland and elected representatives, seek to accomplish the following with a new Village Plaza on Antioch Court:

- Ameliorate a dangerously sharp blind turn from Mountain Blvd. on Oakland Bike Route 8
- Beautify and repair Antioch Court’s crumbling walkways rife with tripping hazards
- Repair deep gauging pothole trenches and dangerous roads for pedestrian and cyclist safety
- Improve street crossing for seniors, youth, and all mobilities
- Create a pedestrian plaza to serve as a community event space and cultural junction benefiting all of Oakland and drawing patrons from across the East Bay

"A new Village Plaza is not just an opportunity to repair broken streets, but it’s also a chance to expand placemaking, social capital, and build our cultural heritage as a community together here in Montclair for all of Oakland. It’s a way for residents to leave a lasting impact in Montclair by putting their personal message on a sidewalk brick.  On behalf of the Montclair Village Association Board and our Executive Director Daniel Swafford, we would like to thank Councilmember Thao for championing this project during the budget process. With the various needs of the City, the Councilmember knew this is a critical project for the safety of Montclair visitors and residents”  - Toni Mikulka, Village Plaza Campaign Director.

Brick sponsorships are still open. To become a major contributor, sponsor a brick, or learn more about the campaign visit: montclairvillage.com/antioch-court-improvement-plan .
