Peace of Pi: Building Computers For Refugees
I am raising money to build free computers setups based around the Raspberry Pi for refugees participating in the Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Program in Maine. Due to the integral role access to the internet plays in the modern classroom environment, and the lack of availability of affordable alternatives, cost effective computers are very important for those who lack the funds to purchase one.
I need funds to purchase Raspberry Pi boards, SD cards, keyboards/mice, monitors, cases, and batteries to put together these computers, each a functional, portable laptop for under $150. These computers allow access to the internet, office software, games, and programming applications. They are meant to serve these roles for families getting on their feet as part of the local Refugee Resettlement Program, so they may effectively work, communicate, and learn without having to worry about such expenses. I hope that each one of these can help someone in need, giving someone the chance to work, code, write, or communicate where they otherwise would not have had such a luxury.
