Short film - Plan Z: from lab coats to handcuffs

Who are we?
We are Louisa and Vlad, two creatives who became friends through three years of documenting climate protest in the UK. We’ve used multi-camera livestreaming to bring some of Extinction Rebellion’s biggest moments to social media followers around the world and worked on the pop-up indie media channel, COP26 TV, throughout the 2021 Glasgow climate conference. Our boots-on-the-ground footage has been used by news channels from the BBC to Al Jazeera Arabic. Now we’re making our first ever short documentary film and need your help!

What’s the story?
What would bring a privileged, upstanding citizen to break the law for climate change? Plan Z: from lab coats to handcuffs follows three scientists – psychology professor Colin, biologist Abi and Scientists for Extinction Rebellion co-founder Aaron – on their journeys from socially conscious researchers to the doors of the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), where they and six others are arrested for causing alleged criminal damage. Around their ensuing legal case swirl the makings of new laws that will punish non-violent protest more harshly in the future. As emissions continue to rise and politicians to ignore the dangers, will scientists back down or will more stand up than ever before?
How can you help?
Our 25-minute film is currently in post-production. Our primary goal is to raise awareness of the severity of the climate crisis and pay tribute to scientists taking part in peaceful protest.
