The Power of the Price of your Cup of Coffee

October 1st marks National Coffee Day. The importance of our project links to this day very closely because, in the United States, 400 million+ cups of coffee are consumed daily. The cost of this cup is typically above $1.05. Coffee, a purchase so commonplace in business and academia, is a cost we often never second guess. This same price would send a child to school for a day in Haiti, but it is a price many families cannot afford. Often living off less than five dollars a day for all of their needs, the $1.05 school fee is a cost that often never makes the budget.

Forced to leave class in the morning if their tuition has not been paid, our goal is to help assist in breaking this barrier. Passionate about not letting this happen to other children, our initiative will go directly to the education fees of students in Saint-Marc, Haiti. If 190 people gave up their $1.05 coffee for the day, we would be able to send a child to school for the whole year. Imagine the impact we would have if the cost of 100,000 out of the 400 million cups were donated – at least 525 children could attend school for the year.

The impacts of this would be broader than just providing them with education. By sending these kids to school, there is a powerful opportunity to:

• Create more jobs in the community

• Increase the average lifespan of a child

• Decrease inflicted illness

• Give the children a voice in their community

• Allow them to provide for their family in the future

• Occupy the children with school to avoid getting involved in crime

• Increase the GDP

On September 30th, we are asking that instead of purchasing your cup of coffee, you donate this amount to help send a child to school. The Proceeds of this GoFundMe will go directly to these kids in Saint-Marc, Haiti. The school year begins in October, perfect timing for these children to enroll. A few months from now, we will be able to provide an update on the children that were granted an education because of your support!
