How Can We Live With Ourselves When Our Neighbors Are Living With Hunger?
Please join your neighbors in communities across Southeastern Vermont and Southwestern NH in making a difference. We are raising money and accepting food donations to benefit Project Feed the Thousands and any donation will help make an impact. Our goal this year is to raise $100,000.00 and 300,000 meals, as this pandemic has thrown us into harder times and created greater challenges then we ever could have expected.
As we begin our 28th campaign against hunger in our community, let us first express to you our sincere wish that you and your loved ones are healthy and safe during these challenging times. Our local communities, along with the rest of the world have been thrust into the midst of a pandemic such that we have never experienced before. These unprecedented times have tested us in ways that we never could have imagined. Yet we have met this challenge with caring and ingenuity, coming together to help our neighbors in need, emboldened by our unified resolve to make a difference in the lives of those who have been most heavily impacted. Since Project Feed the Thousands Inception in 1994, NEVER BEFORE has the challenge been so great. NEVER BEFORE has the need been so great.
Hunger has become an epidemic. This year, more than ever, our friends and neighbors are having an increasingly difficult time putting healthy, nutritious meals on the table. Often it is hidden from the public eye You may see signs of it, not only on the faces of people you meet on the streets, but also on familiar faces at work, in your neighborhood, ar in the faces of children at school. In fact, there are over 5,500 people in our area that regularly use a food shelf or community kitchen. They include senior citizens, veterans, and working families with children who do not earn enough ta make ends meet (less than 2% are homeless). Project Feed the Thousands' mission is to address this epidemic.
The need is tremendous. In our area, the place we are so proud to call home, there are more than 2,000 families facing hunger, and one in four children will go to bed hungry tonight. Even though new government programs have been implemented in an attempt to help alleviate this most basic human need, individuals and families continue to struggle. No one should endure the hardships that some in our community are faced with on a daily basis. Your generous donation will help families and individuals who have NO OTHER CHOICE but to rely an area food shelves to sustain them.
This year's campaign will be different. With the safety of our volunteers, school children, and community members of the utmost importance., food collection points will be limited, Food collection bins will be placed at our local grocery stores only with donated items being picked up and distributed safely to the following food shelves: Food Works Food Shelf, St Brigid's Kitchen and Loaves & Fishes Community Kitchen, all in Brattleboro, Guilford Cares Food Pantry, Bread of Life Food Pantry in Vernon, Hinsdale Food Pantry: Our Place Drop In Center in Bellows Falls, Putney Foodshelf; and Townshend Community Food Shelf
Cash contributions will be critical to our success. Unlike previous campaigns. cash collection boxes at local businesses will be limited. Instead, we will be relying heavily on individuals and businesses to mail in their generous, tax deductible donations so that our area food shelves can help feed thousands This is the ONLY way we can achieve our goals during this difficult time, and the ONLY way we can confront this challenge and ultimately overcome it. Every dollar you donate will go towards helping purchase and distribute food to families in our communities! As you consider your contribution, please keep our giving levels in mind.
The people we serve are our friends and neighbors. They work in our schools and stores, clinics and gas stations. Their children play with our children. They stand next to us in line at the post office and at parades. They’re like us…except they live with hunger. In fact, over 12,000 local people are at risk. Together, we can make a real difference.
NOTATION: Project Feed The Thousands is a non-profit organization run 100% entirely by volunteers without employee or administration fees - all money raised goes directly to the food shelves to purchase foods and personal hygiene items.
