Rebuilding The Double Play Bar and Grill
Donation protected
As many of you may have heard, early on the morning of September 24th The Double Play, a staple and locally owned restaurant in San Francisco, caught on fire. We’re not completely sure what exactly caused the incident yet, but sadly everything is gone. The restaurant was a place for many of you to celebrate our city’s wins, hang out with your best friends, and even make new friends, over the years. To our family, it was that and more.
My father Rafael Hernandez Sr. immigrated to the US from Mexico in 1988 with an American dream; to build a better life for his family. He began at the Double Play as a dishwasher in 1988. With hard work and dedication, shortly after became chef. During this time he became like family to the owners since he was dedicated to working 7 days a week and always made sure he had an income to make sure his kids all went to a great school.
In 2009, he officially became the owner along with my mother. The American Dream to him. This was his second home. Over the course of 35 years this place has seen his children grow up, the birth of his grandchildren, and the passing of dear friends. An entire life.
Your donations will be used to help rebuild my family’s dream. We’re not quite ready to give it all up and we know that with the help of our community, who has maintained us running for many years, we’ll be able to get through this too. Donations will also go towards providing a wage for employees while they are able to find another job as we work to rebuild. What is left over, will be used to replace memorabilia that was so dear and near to the city’s heart. As a thank you to you for your donation, we will put your name on a plaque that will be hung at the bar when we’re fully back and running. If you decide to remain anonymous, we can also put a small message on the plaque.
Thank you so much for your support. This is the only GoFund me organized by The Double Play
