Save Bells Sports Centre in Perth!

Perth &Kinross Community Sports Network is made top of 12 sports, and represents 3500 members.

We are trying to ensure that the iconic Bells Sports Centre in Perth , is refurbished and restored to its former glory, as a major sports and leisure facility for the residents of Perth, and the whole of Scotland.

After it was flooded in October 2023, when the council failed to respond to a 24 hour advance warning of a flood , our unique domed sports centre was closed. This has left many players without a place to enjoy their favorite sporting activity , or having to travel for miles to find an alternative venue.

The Council have decided to convert Bells into an unheated, and open-to-the-atmosphere venue, with expensive astroturf, to cater for a single sport.

We would much prefer to see Bells refurbished and reopened to cater for multiple indoor sports!

We believe that , based on the council's own estimates, that it will cost less to restore it for multiple under sports, than the to remove the skirting around the building, carry out extensive groundworks, and install expense astroturf, for one single sport!

But we need to verify these costs, and this is the reason for the gofundme application.

In order to persuade the council to change its mind, we need to hire a qualified architect, to carry out a detailed survey of Bells, and produce for us a comprehensive report on the costs of, not only returning Bells to its original status, before the flood, but also to improve several aspects of the building. Improved insulation, and the installation of solar panels , will reduce the cost of heating, and reduce the carbon footprint. An innovative heating system will reduce heating cost considerably .

However, as we are not a company or registered charity, we are unable to apply for funding to carry out this essential work .

The availability of local, high-quality sports and leisure facilities plays an important part in the physical and mental wellbeing of all of us .
