Friends of Kensington Playground!

Located at 25 Kensington St., Kensington Playground is the largest public parkland in the Dwight neighborhood of New Haven and the neighborhood’s only public playground. Located on a quiet one-way street, the park is surrounded on all sides by families with children.
The Dwight neighborhood is a low-income, high-density neighborhood situated in central New Haven adjacent to Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital's St Raphael campus. 92% of Dwight's residents are renters.
The Friends of Kensington Playground, a group of Dwight residents, works in four areas:
• surveying community members to set the agenda for major improvements to the playground,
• hosting festive family-friendly events in the park year-round,
• outreach in the Dwight neighborhood to build community,
• establishing a park policy to ensure all children in New Haven have easy access to a playground.
Friends of Kensington Playground was founded in 2020 to save and improve Kensington Playground. In June 2023 we learned that Kensington Playground would not be sold for development and would remain a public park.
See our website KensingtonPlayground.org for additional details.
Friends of Kensington Playground is a 501(c)(3) charity. Donations are tax-exempt and can be made on our GoFundMe page or by check payable to “Friends of Kensington Playground.”
