Shielding Medical Personnel

Donation protected

Beginning in March, when coronavirus cases started filling up my local hospital, my community was engulfed with fear of the unknown. My sister and I decided to be proactive and help our community in any way we could. After talking to a local doctor, we discovered there was a large shortage of face shields. We knew we could easily 3D print shields, but with our schoolshut down, we didn't have access to a 3D printer (and with the economy shut down, we knew we weren't able to get one). I prayed about it, then asked my school's vice-principal if I could borrow two of my school's 3D printers. He believed in our idea, letting me borrow two printers from Western Center Academy. Ariana, my sister and I began donating shields to local hospital staff and medical personnel. In the past three months, we've donated over 5000 face shields to Loma Linda Hospitals, Temecula Valley Hospital, Rady's Children Hospital, various senior care facilities, local doctors, respiratory therapists, optometrists, veterinarians, various school districts and Costcos. The demand is still high as the cases are rising. We need more filaments and plastic to print the shields.

These face shields can greatly reduce the spread of COVID19 by blocking fluids and droplets from coming in contact with medical professionals. Many people can use a face mask plus one of these shields for added protection.

All the monies donated will be used to buy more filament and material so we can continue todonate.
