Solidarity with Kev Thakrar!

Kev has been held in solitary confinement for over 13 years, in what is known as a "Close Supervision Centre (CSC)". Disproportionately, men of colour, Black men and/or Muslim men are subjected to the CSC. Kev writes "No human could possibly survive such inhumanity undamaged."

His friends are fundraising to provide him with enough phone credit to make the calls he relies on to manage the oppressive environment where he's held captive and to contribute towards costs for travel to visits. It is disproportionately more expensive for prisoners to make calls than for those of us outside. Prisons are remote from family networks who rely on (ever more expensive!) public transport.

Kev is battling to manage his Post-Traumatic Stress in this deeply hostile environment. It helps him survive when he is able to speak on the phone and have the maximum amounts of visits, but all of these cost money that far exceeds the tiny prison wages.

For the past 16 months he has been held captive in the segregation unit of HMP Belmarsh. Each segregation unit is terrible in particular ways - in HMP Belmarsh seg, prisoners are deprived of seeing any one other than the prison officers who lock them in. The occasional visits allowed are the only other human contact prisoners experience - and its almost impossible to book due to hostility from HMP Belmarsh.

We are looking to raise £750 to towards Kev's phone credit and visits. The full amount for a year would be about £1200 for phone credit and £1300 towards fuel/ train tickets, for him to receive at least 1 visit/ month for a year for people travelling from various distances across the UK.
